Welcome aboard
The barge
Mr Bernard, the original owner, is a boatman in the north of France. He operates a wooden boat for transporting goods. During the Second World War, the English air force bombed Dunkirk and its boat was destroyed.
In 1950, the Society for the Reconstruction of the River Park allocated the barge to him as war damage. Mr. Bernard named the boat “Ma Pensée” and resumed the transport of cereals and goods on all the canals of France. He lives a life of homelessness with his family on board. His son Daniel was born in what is now Cabin 3 and in turn became a sailor.
At the time of retirement, he sold the barge to Hervé Botticelli in 2018 who completely renovated it to give it its current appearance. The barge ceased its nomadic life and moored in Metz to welcome visitors.
